Royal Kent School News - Early Summer 2024

2nd July 2024

Dear Parents,

After the April showers, May has blessed us with beautiful, warm weather that we all enjoy. As the weather continues to get warmer, please remember to provide your children with sun cream, sun hats, and ensure they have water bottles. Since we are an outdoor-based setting, these precautions will help keep the children safe and comfortable while they play in the sun.

Our activities

Over the last term, we have been working on creating a balance between indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring everyone can access the areas they enjoy most. When all the children arrive at the club, we start with a snack. Once everyone has had their snack, we open up the back door and allow a free-flow onto the field. The children can access the field for fresh air, play football, participate in scavenger hunts, or enjoy team games and races. For those who prefer to stay indoors, we have been providing a variety of creative craft materials and an array of options for them to explore.

Lately, the children have been particularly creative with playdoh, paper, and cellophane, and they also enjoy exploring the games cupboard to develop their turn-taking skills through board games.

As the sun starts to drop and it cools down, we tidy up and move to the front area. The children love having split areas to play in, using the different equipment like the netball nets, climbing frame, trim trail, sandpit, and hut area for building dens. They have also shown interest in taking indoor activities outside. For example, they brought the train track outside and had a blast building the longest track, winding it around the path. It was truly amazing and inventive! We've continued this trend, and recently the dinosaurs have had an adventure in the sandpit. We can't wait to see what else they bring outside.

A favorite game this month has been Grandma's Footsteps, the most requested by the children. We all have such fun playing this game, with lots of giggles as we creep up to "Grandma" before she or he turns around to catch us out!
