Spring has sprung and the days are staying lighter for longer, which has definitely given us all something to smile about. The children have been busy sharing their thoughts, working as team and becoming young leaders. As we approach the last term in this academic year we look forward to the warmer days giving us opportunities to explore the outside more.
Bertie, Bonnie and their council members organised a questionnaire for all the children to take part in. They decided on the questions, Bertie then typed up the questionnaire, and Bertie and some of the other council members helped the younger children complete their questionnaire and provided the older children with copies.
They then collated all the answers and fed back to the Clubland staff and children. The feedback was very positive. There were a few suggestions of food that some children don’t like such as celery and tuna, but overall they feel we have good food options and there is something for everyone each day. They are all happy with the variety of activities and toys that we have and there were some suggestions for new games which we will consider getting.
The council will now be working on a summer quiz for the next half term, so more news then.
Our activities
Since we came back after half term we have all been busy taking part in lots of spring activities including making 3D daffodils, mini umbrellas and woolly lambs.
We celebrated ‘World Thinking Day’ by creating our own thinking day tree which involved all the children designing a hand print and writing how they would help people around the world. Some of the ideas were: giving money to homeless people, being kind and helping other people, being friendly, donating clothes, shoes and food and recycling.
We also celebrated the ‘Big Breakfast Day’ by making mini cereal boxes and banana and strawberry smoothies, which were very popular and the children were keen to add this to our regular breakfast menu. On St David’s Day we made Welsh cakes and for Easter we made yummy Easter chocolate nests.
Our Italian playworker, Leo, made pizza dough with the children and then the following day they made two enormous pizzas which we all enjoyed eating!
To celebrate Easter we also made mosaic Easter eggs, Easter baskets and cards and then on the last afternoon of Clubland before the holidays we enjoyed our annual Easter egg hunt.
Looking ahead
We hope the Summer term will bring lots of good weather so that we can spend as much time outside. All the children at Claygate really enjoy the outside space and we will utilise this by bringing the inside out. We will set up creative areas, such as water play and use the mud kitchen and enjoy a variety of summer based activities such as team rounders, large scale painting, and forest school activities. We plan to sew some vegetables and flowers which we haven’t been able to do this term due to all the rain!!
