Claygate Primary School News - Early Summer 2024

2nd July 2024
Welcome

As I write this newsletter, we've finally been blessed with a series of sunny days. The children at Claygate absolutely love being outdoors, exploring and enjoying the trim trail and climbing frame, playing football, and engaging in arts and crafts, all under the beautiful sunshine.Clubland Council at Claygate

The council members have been incredibly supportive, taking the time to create beautiful posters for our little garden. They have also been diligently working on their summer quiz, and everyone is looking forward to participating in it next term. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and have added a wonderful sense of community to our activities.

Our activities

This half term has been all about embracing nature and getting creative with the great outdoors! We've been busy designing a mini garden area, planting wildflowers and early summer vegetables, and we're eagerly waiting for them to start sprouting. Some of the children even took home cress heads that we grew, while others stayed with us at the club for delicious sandwich toppings.

In our arts and crafts sessions, we made nature wands and crowns using natural plant materials. We also made our own binoculars and embarked on an exciting scavenger hunt. Painting various flowers using unique techniques like cotton buds and finger printing added a colorful touch to our activities. Plus, we've been busy making bird feeders to attract feathered friends to our little garden oasis and the shrubs around our playground.

Our cooking sessions have been a hit too! We whipped up scrumptious jam tarts, cheesy straws, and mini muffin pizzas that left the children asking for more.

And let's not forget about our sensory area... we've been making rose-scented playdough, building sandcastles, and going on adventures with toy animals in our natural play environment. It's been a blast exploring and learning all about nature together!

Looking ahead

With our fingers crossed for plenty of sunny days, we're gearing up to dive into all things summer when we come back in June.

We've got a lineup of outdoor sports and games planned, from classic rounders to thrilling running races on the field. Plus, we'll infuse our creative sessions with the spirit of sunny days, crafting our own lemonade, setting up a fun beach area, and decorating pebbles with vibrant paints. It's going to be a term filled with fun and laughter under the sun!

Reminders

Don't forget to pack your child's sunhat and water bottle each day, and make sure they're labeled! Sunscreen is a must-have too—either apply it before they arrive or send it along so they can top up throughout the day. We'll be soaking up the sunshine outdoors as much as we can, so let's keep everyone protected and hydrated!
